SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS

Project managed the successful implementation of a standardised Financial system for $2bn division of a major engineering and construction company.  This included 5 companies in four different countries.
In conjunction with the CEO and VP operations, refocused, restructured and returned a $1bn company back into profit after many years of substantial losses.

Improved training and department organization within the finance department of a major corporation enabling staff to take on different types of work.  This reduced operating costs, head count and staff turnover, and improved the flow of information to the rest of the business. Centralized and standardized the accounting function of the Canadian operations of a large group, leading to substantial cost savings and an improvement in the quality and reliability of financial services to the organisation.

Assumed the management of the IT department of a medium sized business. Recruited professional technical staff and led the development and implementation of a strategic plan to upgrade the service. This included implementation of standard policies and procedures, hardware and software upgrades and mentoring one individual to take on the IT manager’s role.

Successfully divested the organization of a small software business which sold software to pulp mills, whilst acting as CEO of the business.  Heavily involved in the complete process including valuation, dealing with the staff issues, making presentations to potential buyers, and negotiating the price.

Improved senior management decision making by organizing and leading finance training for non financial managers. Business success was measured by a number of key ratios.  This training improved understanding of how the decisions taken by management impacted the key financials.
