For corporations, he provides guidance for financial and corporate development functions such as raising capital, mergers and acquisitions and management of relationships with all stakeholders. For financial institutions, he advises with respect to corporate banking with a focus on expanding market presence, building client relationships, and creating systems and procedures for sourcing, negotiating, structuring, completing, and managing corporate loans.
SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS
Achieved immediate profitability in a start-up oil and gas company owned
by a major financial institution. Negotiated five profitable exploration
joint ventures, a participation in one frontier project, and a purchase
of producing assets. Developed initial accounting system and supervised
transition to a more sophisticated system.
Established corporate lending division in Western Canada for a major financial
institution from a zero base of connections and presence. Sourced, negotiated,
structured, completed, and managed profitable financing commitments totaling
approximately $150 million.
Restructured financial affairs of an oil and gas management company resulting
in more current and relevant information for decision-making purposes.
Profits were increased by reducing audit fees, joint venture costs, and
abandoning uneconomic facilities. Capital expenditure approval process
was accelerated and reporting to limited partners and bank was improved.
Devised marketing strategies for successful sale of several packages of
oil and gas properties.
Planned and implemented a marketing strategy, which included contacting
150 prospective buyers and arranging 35 private presentations, for successful
sale of a private oil and gas company in a period of low oil prices and
for proceeds higher than expected.
Co-managed acquisition of an oil and gas well servicing company.
Revived Montreal bond trading and institutional sales department for a
major national investment dealer resulting in a return to profitability
and volumes equal to Toronto colleagues.
