Functional Expertise

Design and Distribution Company

WHO

    •    A privately owned business that provides commercial design for office spaces across Canada.

    •    Family owned. The President is the second generation, while the founder chairs the board.

    •    Approximately 150 employees; annual revenue of $50,000m.

WHAT

Day to day management of the business had successfully transferred from the founding generation to the next generation. The President had been in this role for about 2 years, and was gradually introducing a new management and accountability approach for the senior staff. While most of the President’s direct reports were open to this new approach, the CFO was pivotal to being able to make the transition successful. The incumbent was resisting the changes and the President decided that a change in personnel was the most appropriate way to move forward.

HOW

The Osborne Group was brought in the day after the CFO was terminated to take on the role of Interim CFO while the search for a permanent replacement was underway. We took on responsibility for running the department of 6, as well as for implementing the President’s new vision for reporting and accountability.

SUCCESS STORY 

The President was able to move forward with the new vision of accountability for all senior staff. The Osborne Principal was successful in negotiating better terms with a new bank which allowed the company to seek out and successfully fulfill major customer orders. A full-time CFO was hired 5 months after the termination of the previous employee. The company continues to grow and is recognized as one of the most innovative in its industry.
