I’m sure there are very few among us who have not from time to time heard the siren call of being your own boss. Setting your own hours, making the big decisions, maybe even sloughing off the small and “menial” tasks to others under your “command”….these thoughts are some of the many parts of that dream. Business shows dealing with the many kinds of franchised businesses all tout the numerous positive aspects of “being your own boss” through franchise ownership.

It doesn’t take much imagination to see the good side of being “the boss”:  a large corner office in some cases; assistants to handle the many tasks that need to get attended to; and of course the money and perks that are often associated with the top position. But being the boss and exercising leadership have another, often less “enjoyable” side: making hard choices on any number of important topics; being accountable for those decisions and as well as those of others that work for you; making sure that the work that needs to be completed is, in fact, both completed and accurate.

How many of us realize that both the scenarios noted above already exist in our daily lives?

All of us deal with key strategic decisions; like where will I live; what field of work should I choose; should I change jobs or my career? We also frequently deal with situations involving large amounts of money; the purchase of a home or car; renovating parts of the house; taking vacations; or perhaps post-secondary education for the children.   Financial transactions such as taking out and managing mortgages, using credit cards, arranging loans, dealing with financial planning for your future are all part of everyday life in the 21st century.

So next time you start to think about what it would be like to be the boss, the big cheese, the head of your organization – remember – you’re already there !!!!!!

YOU ARE THE CEO OF YOUR LIFE!
